Benefits of NAD+
NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a vital coenzyme that plays multiple roles in the body, particularly in energy production and cellular repair. Here are some of the main benefits of NAD+:
- Energy Production:
- NAD+ is crucial for ATP production, the primary source of energy in cells. It participates in the electron transport chain reactions in the mitochondria, facilitating the conversion of nutrients into energy.
- DNA Repair:
- NAD+ helps activate proteins that repair damaged DNA, which is essential for maintaining genetic integrity and preventing age-related diseases, such as cancer.
- Brain Function and Cognitive Health:
- NAD+ contributes to the protection of brain cells and can improve memory and cognitive function. It has been investigated for its role in reducing the risk of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
- Longevity and Anti-Aging:
- Studies have shown that elevated levels of NAD+ can activate enzymes called sirtuins, which are associated with longevity and improved metabolism. Sirtuins help regulate cellular aging and stress resistance.
- Metabolism:
- NAD+ is essential in regulating metabolism, helping to improve energy efficiency and maintain a healthy balance of glucose and lipids.
- Cardiovascular Health:
- NAD+ can improve cardiovascular function by increasing the production of nitric oxide, which helps keep blood vessels flexible and reduces blood pressure.
- Inflammation and Oxidative Stress:
- NAD+ has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that can reduce oxidative stress, a key factor in many chronic diseases and aging.
Sources
- Energy Production: NAD+’s role in energy production through the electron transport chain is well-known in mitochondrial biochemistry.
- DNA Repair and Brain Function: Studies on sirtuins and their relationship with NAD+ are prominent in aging and neurodegenerative disease research.
- Longevity and Metabolism: Research in animal models has demonstrated the positive effects of increased NAD+ on longevity and metabolism.
- Cardiovascular Health and Oxidative Stress: The relationship between NAD+, nitric oxide, and cardiovascular health, as well as its role in reducing oxidative stress, has been explored in clinical and preclinical studies.
These benefits of NAD+ are actively being researched and can vary depending on age, health status, and other individual factors.
Necessary Materials
- NAD Plus powder
- Bacteriostatic water (5 ml) provided in the package
- Syringe with a subcutaneous needle
- Isopropyl alcohol
- Cotton balls or sterile gauze
Step 1: Preparing the Solution
- Wash your hands: Ensure you wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before starting the process.
- Disinfect the NAD Plus vial and the bacteriostatic water vial:
- Wipe the top of the NAD Plus vial and the bacteriostatic water vial with a sterile gauze pad soaked in isopropyl alcohol. Let them air dry.
- Inject the bacteriostatic water into the NAD Plus vial:
- Use a syringe to draw 5 ml of bacteriostatic water.
- Insert the needle into the NAD Plus vial and slowly inject the bacteriostatic water into the vial.
- Do not shake the vial. Gently swirl it to mix the contents until the powder is completely dissolved.
Step 2: Drawing the Correct Dose
- Prepare the syringe with the initial dose:
- Using a new syringe, draw the necessary amount for the initial dose. According to the instructions, you need to inject 12.5 units, which equals 25 milligrams.
- In an insulin syringe, 12.5 units correspond to a small mark (1 unit typically equals 2 milligrams when the solution is 200 mg/ml). Ensure you calculate correctly according to the concentration and the syringe you are using.
Step 3: Subcutaneous Injection
- Choose the injection site:
- Common sites for subcutaneous injections are the abdomen (avoiding the area near the navel) and the outer upper thigh.
- Disinfect the injection area:
- Clean the skin area where you will inject with a gauze pad soaked in isopropyl alcohol. Let it air dry.
- Perform the injection:
- Gently pinch a fold of skin at the injection site.
- Insert the needle at a 45-degree angle.
- Inject the solution slowly and smoothly.
- Withdraw the needle and release the skin.
- Apply pressure with a sterile gauze pad to the injection site.
Step 4: Increasing the Dose
- Gradually increase the dose:
- The initial dose is 12.5 units (25 mg). You can gradually increase this to 50 units (100 mg), following your doctor’s instructions.
- Do this from Monday to Friday or as directed by your doctor.
Step 5: Disposing of Materials
- Dispose of needles and syringes:
- Dispose of used needles and syringes in a sharps container.
- Wash your hands: Wash your hands again after completing the injection.
Additional Notes
- Consult your doctor: Always follow your doctor’s specific instructions and consult them if you have any questions or experience any side effects.
- Storage: Store the NAD Plus solution according to the manufacturer’s instructions, usually in a cool place away from direct light.
If you need more details or have any specific questions, feel free to ask.
